Day 4: New Years Day: Last Day in Bangkok

After a long night of partying and celebrating the New Year we decided to take it easy. The first thing we wanted to do was get some REALLY good Thai food. Thai food is probably the best tasting food I’ve ever had. Just how good is it? I’ve been ordering and eating Thai dishes that have veggies. For those that know me well, veggies aren’t something I eat often.

The concierge recommended a nice high end Thai restaurant just a few blocks from our hotel. We started walking down the street and saw a pretty funny billboard on our way.

I had no idea we were known for our burgers in California! Anyway we continued on and got to the restaurant. It was a nicer restaurant than we were used to but the food was even more amazing than usual! I should’ve taken a picture but was too busy enjoying one of the greatest meals in my life.

The best part was that it only cost us 400 baht each which is about $12.00 USD. Not bad! We were stuffed and looking for something relaxing to do for the next hour or so. What did we end up doing?

You guessed it: massage time!

We decided we wanted to follow our high end meal with a high end massage. Unfortunately many of the higher end massage parlors were booked all day. Luckily for us there was a highly recommended massage service where the masseuses come to your room. Score!

We waited for about 30 minutes when we finally heard a knock at the door. Our masseuses were here. Both were very small. Probably only about 5 feet tall and around 100 pounds. If you’re not familiar with a Thai massage, it involves a lot of stretching and moving the body. I don’t know how these girls were doing it but they were lifting us up and moving us all around. Pretty impressive!

After our massages we wanted to at least walk by the famous Nana Plaza which was only a few minute walk from our hotel. Nana Plaza is basically a 3 story which is rumored to be the largest sex complex in the world (that’s straight from Wikipedia). One of the floors is pretty much dedicated to lady boys. Basically there are a bunch of bars each filled a dancers and prostitutes. We’re not ones for hookers but we thought we might at least see what all the hype is since it was our last day in Bangkok.

We arrived around 6:30pm which was still pretty early in the night. It turns out most of the places were just opening so it was pretty dead and there weren’t many people around. We walked around and looked into some of the bars but ended up leaving after 15 minutes or so. Oh well, at least I can say I was there (even though that’s probably not a good thing).

We got back to our hotel around 7pm and decided we wanted to take a quick nap before we go out on the town. It was our last night in Bangkok so we wanted to go out with a “bang” (get it?). Well that nap quickly turned into just an early bed time seeing as we didn’t wake up until early next morning. Our last day in Bangkok was now complete and tomorrow we would head up North to Chiang Mai.

Overall we both had an amazing time in Bangkok. The people are very nice and fun (except for the scammers), the food tastes amazing, the malls are huge, the temples are amazing, the weather was perfect, and the nightlife can’t be beat. There’s not enough good things I can say about this city. Even though there are a lot of “red light” districts filled with hookers, there are plenty of fun places where the locals go.

I will definitely come visit Bangkok again…hopefully soon. Off to Chiang Mai!
